Sloatsburg is a gateway to local and state parks and is surrounded by the green space of Harriman State Park and Sterling Forest State Park. Additionally, Rockland County Parks include Dater Mountain Nature County Park and Eleanor Burlingham Memorial Park, a 45 acres of undeveloped county parkland dedicated in September 1992 and named in honor of the late Eleanor Burlingham, an active environmentalist in Rockland County. The park follows the Ramapo River west to Seven Lakes Drive — the main souther entrance into Harriman State Park.

Sloatsburg is surrounded by State Parks that offer hiking, swimming, boating, camping, and just a day idling in nature. The Village itself provides an assortment of restaurants, including Stone Meadow Inn, Sunnysides Bar & Grill, Characters Bar & Restaurant, Seven Lakes Station, and Rhodes North Tavern. Hikers making their way along the newly developed multi-trails in Sterling Forest State Park. The Red Back/Hutchinson/Munsee Eagle loops in Sterling Forest were partly funded by New York State Parks and private donors such as Tuxedo Hudson Company, which is active in revitalizing Sloatsburg, NY.

Harriman State Park is the second largest state park in New York State at 47,527 acres and is located in Rockland and Orange counties, just 30 miles north of New York City.

The Village of Sloatsburg rests near Harriman’s southernmost border at at the foot of Wrightman’s Plateau near Torne Mountain. Harriman is a haven for hikers with some 200 miles (of hiking trails and a diverse environment that contains 31 lakes, multiple streams and public camping areas.

The park's hiking trails are maintained by volunteers from the New York - New Jersey Trail Conference.

Sterling Forest State Park to the northwest of Sloatsburg in Orange County has some 22,000 acres and 83 miles of trail miles.
